Mary Koval

Mary Koval is an american lady, who collects and sells antique quilts. This week she was in the Netherlands giving a lecture in Zutphen (she's friend of Petra Prins, who got, I think one of the most lovely quiltshops in the Netherlands).

I loved the lecture!!! Mary knows very much about fabrics, and she got beautiful quilts with her to show us. She's a very very sweet lady, not only interested in her own quilts, but also likes to talk about your quilts, new or old. The theme this year was: 'grandmother flowers". So I took my "grandmothers flower quilttop" with me, to ask if it was really made it in the '30s. And yes, it even got a few feedsacks in it. You can image I was very happy with the news. Maybe she's coming next year for a workshop in Zutphen, well they can put me already on the list.

Yesterday, gave me lots of inspirations to go on with my own "antique quilt collection". MORE PHOTOS

Weather forecast for the weekend

It should be summer, but this morning it looked liked autumn. Almost the whole Netherlands is covered with clouds. Well they say end of next week the weather will be improving. In the meantime we call it: quiltingweather.

Family lunch

My brother, sister-in-law and their two kids are just for a couple weeks in the Netherlands. Normally they live in China, where my brother is temporarily working.

Well China isn't around the corner, so we hadn't see each other for almost 1,5 year.

Kaffe Fassett Masterclass (6)

The Kaffe Fassett story is going on. As you know I finished the top 1,5 week ago.

My first idea was to make some pillows (idea from my friend Dieuwke), and use the leftovers for the back.

But for some reason I couldn't find any inspiration. So I thought I just buy a big piece of fabric for the back, and let it finish by the North Sea Quilters.
Then I thought, what I will I do with all those leftovers? Probably nothing for years. But still no progress.
This evening after a busy day at work, I felt inspiration coming up, and there it is, hanging again at my diningroom wall, the "back" of Kaffe Fassett. Just need a few more yards of fabric to finish it completely. And of course now it has to be sewn.

X-mas is still far away.....

...... but I have signed in for the Secret Santa Christmas Swap organised by Chookey. The swap is still open if you're interested. I also signed in last year, and it was really fun opening all those presents on X-mas morning.

Topsport

Hurrah, I finished my Kaffe Fassett Top in less then three weeks. That's quilting top sport.

The last seam I sewed this morning at 6.45 p.m. (Do you think I'm a morning person ; ).
It's colourful, it's bright, it's wild, now it only need a backing. I think I will start using all my leftovers, because for some reason I got the feeling this is a once-in-your-life project. Take care of yourself it's friday the 13th.

Little projects

My Kaffe Fassett Quilt is on schedule, next week (because Rob his sister and husband are coming next weekend) I hope to finish the top. In the mean time I have made a few little projects. A little bag, just for me, for my handquilting stuff. I was tidying up my quiltroom, and there it was half-finished. So now it's ready for use.

I made a needle case, I'm in a swap from the Quilting Gallery, this needle case is on his way to Norwegian. I'm very curious from where "my needle case" will come from. And last but not least I made a photoalbum for Dieuwke from our trip to Seattle. Because I found it a little bored, I made a case for it. Happy birthday Dieuwke.

It's not all about quilting

We had a lovely weekend, with lot of activities. Rob was on a short cycling tour on friday and saturday (Bergen op Zoom - Mierlo - Breda). My parents stayed for the weekend in The Hague. On saturday we went to the Musical Mary Poppins in the Circustheatre in Schevingen. Sunday a walk along the beach.

I have done 10 rows from Kaffe Fassett Quilt, still 20 to go. I hope to finish the top in august. Then I can start with the "back" and use all the leftovers.
